Free Tree Society

Free Tree Society Kuala Lumpur is bringing green mainstream! Since 2012 we have worked tirelessly to inspire a community of environmental stewards by giving away trees for free and producing a wide range of nature based activities.

We strive to harvest the power of community impact by inviting volunteers to take part in fun knowledge sharing activities, raising awareness on the science of environmental degradation, and distributing resources (like #freetrees!) to empower the adoption of sustainable practices. Our programmes aim to accelerate the journey to build a greener Malaysian mindset and culture.

Besides gardening and planting workshops, all areas of environmental awareness such as waste management, rainwater harvesting, energy and climate change, forest conservation, and biodiversity are among the topics that Free Tree Society regularly engages with the community that includes corporate groups, students of all ages, and the general public. Activities are hands-on at our outdoor classrooms which are located at beautiful plant nurseries and urban forests. We also conduct online workshops and talks using a mix of live and pre-recorded material to provide environmental learning opportunities beyond the Klang Valley, to reach the whole of East and West Malaysia… and beyond!

Free Tree Society promotes the implementation of United Nations instruments and global goals on environmental issues, sustainable development, climate change, and responsible consumption and production. We are registered with the Registrar of Societies as Free Tree Society Kuala Lumpur PPM-010-14-21052012, a non-profit environmental civil society. Currently we are in the process of changing our constitution to enable us to become a national organisation, Free Tree Society Malaysia. While this process is ongoing and expected to take several months, we are committed to this exciting phase in our organisations’ continued development.
