#PowerPlantChallenge

We are leading a movement to plant 160 billion trees to stop otherwise unavoidable climate catastrophe.

A quirky take on our standard definition of a power plant, this movement will give a new interpretation to a chief cause of Earth’s climate crisis and turn both the meaning and the looming catastrophe upside down.
Scientists have shown that reducing greenhouse emissions is only part of the solution to solving the climate crisis. CO2 still needs to be massively reduced from the atmosphere as part of a survivable scenario. Nature based solutions to restore and protect natural carbon sinks are the second part of the solution to reducing atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide – a simple way that every one of us can contribute is by planting more trees!

If every human on Earth were to plant 20 trees, we could plant about 180 billion trees with very little effort – that’s 20 trees multiplied by almost 8 billion people. What an amazing attainable nature-based solution.

We call this our #PowerPlantChallenge and your goal is to simply plant 20 trees.

What sized tree counts?  Think of a tree that is big enough to sit under. Mango sized trees not a basil plant ok!

Where to plant? If you don’t have space to plant at home then plant with a community project, school, or give gifts to your friends and family who balik kampung. Be creative – we know you can find a way to plant 20 trees to mitigate your emissions!

So make sure that you complete your challenge and plant 20 trees as quickly as you can!

The #PowerplantChallenge movement will be a beacon of hope in the face of climate disaster.

Our goal is to bring to life its potential as a green space for local residents and rewild it! Our regular activities include trail maintenance, rehabilitation and revitalisation of the biodiversity, advocacy to champion legal protection of this valuable urban forest. Our costs are RM4,000 per month however we welcome any contributions, large or small.

Wishlist

Youth Night Walk Programme (B40): Let’s get the kids outside and introduce them to another world! Fund a guided night walk for underprivileged youth conducted by fascinating herpetologists to experience what happens in an urban forest at night: what creatures work, lurk, sleep or glow in the dark! This walk is designed to heighten awareness, respect and appreciation of the Pulai Trail as an urban ecosystem service provider. A donation of RM1000 will cover the fees for the Night Guide, Herpetologist, transport, snacks for 8 local B40 youths, and headlamps.
