Volunteer

From growing greenery to stocking the pop-up shop, there’s a job for everyone. No gardening experience required.

Get Your Hands Dirty

Individuals, groups, schools, companies – everyone can volunteer!

Please read all information on volunteering prior to emailing us. All volunteer sessions require an advanced booking as places are limited per session. Please refer to the respective pages for more details.

Help from Home

Spread your love for our environment from home. Here are ways you can contribute to Free Tree Society’s nursery operations.

Seeds & Cuttings

The more we plant the more we can give away! Don’t throw away your seeds or garden cuttings – donate them to us so that we can turn them into free trees! Please note tropical seeds are best planted fresh.

Save Your Pots & Trays

We’re happy to have your unwanted pots too. We’ll use these for propagation of new plants. Can you help? Pots of all sizes welcome (clay/plastic/seed trays/troughs). Kindly remove and wash out old soil.

Host a Mini-Nursery

Host a nursery and look after some seedlings for us in your own garden. We’ll help you to get set up. Experienced gardeners appreciated. Do ensure you have some time to commit to this task.

Host a Plant

Host a plant that we can use as a steady supply of seeds or cuttings. As a rule most people like a plant that is useful or beautiful, so if your plant meets that description, chances are we may want some of it!

Raise the (Treasury) Roof

Consider hosting herb-planting themed evenings in your neighbourhood or plant-based dinners with your friends to raise donations for FTS to keep operating.

Gardeners Wanted

We’re doctors, homemakers, academics, herbalists, activists, freelancers, environmentalists. The volunteers at FTS reflect the best of Malaysia and keep us going.

Water Goddesses

FTS is able to open two days a week in part thanks to the water goddesses who take time out of their busy day to keep our plants hydrated and their survival rate up.

Content Creators

A picture tells a thousand words, but our story doesn’t quite write – or draw – itself. That’s where the communications and design team comes in to keep things beautiful.

Join the HQ Team

Got expert skills and have 4 to 5 hours a week to help our team keep things running? If you have 7+ years of experience in any of the areas below and are passionate about what we do for the environment, we invite you to connect with us!

Workshop Leaders

Team Leader
Lead volunteer sessions at our nursery to create more environmental warriors and be a catalyst for change.

Fundraise

Mobilisers
Organise creative campaigns, sell cupcakes, run marathons, chase clowns – to raise funds to keep FTS growing.

HQ volunteers typically remotely work with our team for 4+ hours a week on specific, limited deliverables that help our organization grow. Because of the self contained nature of this work, it would be great to fit in on weekdays, nights, and weekends even – there’s always someone doing something at FTS through the week!
