Bangsar Nursery

Where our community grows.

Open on Tuesday and Saturday mornings only.

Free Tree Society’s flagship Bangsar Nursery is nestled into the last green lung of cosmopolitan Bangsar, the remnants of an old rubber estate from a bygone era, and the birthplace of a presently imperative environmental society.

Our environment is at the forefront of our cause and we make a point of ensuring our activities are as sustainable as possible. We use natural fertilizers and pest repellents, we harvest rainwater for watering the nursery, and we have composting and solar panels on site.

Potting Shed

Our classroom, workshop, nursery for seedlings and cuttings, and meeting space. A place of learning and fabulous community spirit!

#freetree Stock

At any given moment, FTS has over 2,000 plants for giving away. Some are propagated from mother plants on-site while others are grown by our host gardeners.

Pop-Up Shop

Stocked with a range of basic gardening tools as well as natural and non-toxic fertilisers, pest repellents, and soil amenders. Drop by during volunteer times to shop.

Donate for More Plants

Can’t wait for a giveaway day? Just pop in and see what we have in the nursery. From succulents to shrubs to 3 ft fruit trees, we have a range of plants waiting for you to take home with a donation of RM5, per plant.

Wildlife Habitats

Learn about creating wildlife habitats. We have many at the nursery including this pond, a beautiful addition to the nursery that is especially loved by visiting children who delight in observing the dragonflies and aquatic life. Collect water plants, a few fish and tadpoles, and a bit of pond water to start your own wildlife pond at home.

Volunteer at the Nursery

What do volunteers do?

We run volunteering sessions at the Bangsar Nursery on Tuesdays and Saturdays. A typical session will see the Free Tree Society team leading volunteers through:

  • An introduction to Free Tree Society and tour of Bangsar Nursery
  • Biodiversity Talk (Rewilding and Wildlife Habitats)
  • Environmental Solutions Talk (Rainwater Harvesting, Compost and Waste, and Climate Change)
  • Planting Workshop (soil mixing, propagation, and transplanting)
  • Nursery Management (plant care and nursery maintenance)

Our programme is designed to impart participants with the knowledge and skills to create a nation of trained Environmental Stewards. We provide all the tools and equipment. Volunteers are advised to wear clothes and shoes suitable for outdoor gardening work. Volunteers should bring their own mosquito repellent, sunscreen, hat and change of clothing. An umbrella or poncho may be required.

An ethos of being green and sustainable underpins all activities. When you attend our nursery, kindly try to:

  • Travel Green – travel via public transport or car pooling
  • Manage Your Waste – recycle on site, compost, think zero waste
  • F&B – bring your own water bottle; if you are bringing your own meal, do consider going vegetarian/vegan and be sure to go single-use plastic free (e.g. straws, cutlery and mineral water).

As part of our zero waste effort, FTS does not accept gifts/tokens such as t-shirts and mugs. While we appreciate the gesture, consider instead making a donation towards our programmes.

Our Bangsar nursery is located on Jalan Limau Purut, opposite Bangsar Aman condominium (set your GPS to this location). Opening times are only on Tuesdays from 9:30 – 11:30am (by appointment) and Saturdays from 9:00am – 12:00pm.

Parking is limited. Please note that this is a residential area and visitors are expected to behave with courtesy and thoughtfulness: please do not park in front of residential gates or obstruct traffic flow, and please keep the noise level down.

We encourage volunteers and visitors to the nursery to take public transport or an e-hailing service.
